Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
The final game of the season awaits, as we travel to Somerset this weekend to face promotion rivals, Weston-super-Mare. The Seagulls are one of the form teams in the league and sit just inside the playoffs in 8th place, 1 point behind us. A win for Dorking would guarantee at least 3rd place, whereas a point would guarantee playoffs. A defeat may also be enough if any of the teams below us drop points. A reminder that 6 of the top 8 teams face eachother this weekend.
Marc said in the weekly update that Jordan Norville-Williams is ruled out for the remainder of the season and that Pat Casey was also unlikely to return. The good news though is that Alfie Rutherford should be available once again and Jimmy Muitt is likely to return to the bench for this one. There was no news on the likes of McManus, Knight, Pybus or Liam Vincent.
Predictions:
Weston 2-2 Dorking (McCallum, Carter)
2,090 att.
Foulkes
Camp Francomb F.Vincent
Enslin Pinchard Moore Lewis
Carter
McCallum Pearson
Subs: Knight, Sullivan, Sidwell, Muitt, Prior, Rutherford, Lawrence
The most dominant first half half you’d ever see, everyone was excellent. George Knight was fantastic at the back- hope he’s fit for Wednesday. He said at the end he just cramped up in both legs.
Second half just couldn’t really get going as well, lots of crosses and shots over . Thought the officials were truly terrible and both teams had pens turned away. Don’t like Weston as a team, didn’t think they offered much, thuggish like at times.
First time visiting Weston, facilities were awful agreed- heard they ran out of drink at half time
George Knight was my player of the match, although he had the wrong studs in his boots. Twice he slipped but luckily Weston weren't pressing. Stewards were useless. I was directed to o e set of turnstiles where I was turned away and had to enter round the other side of the ground.
Diabolical away facilities, particularly in respect of womens toilets, which was a disgrace, I hope the club put in an official complaint
Food was cold when I bought it too
Programme digital only
All in all one of the worst experiences this season, which insane as when its unsegregated it is really good
Couldn't agree more. Absolutely no reason to keep us from going under the roof and getting some shelter from the sun, as well as generating some noise which was pretty much impossible with all that hard standing round the edge. Worst away end yet tbh.
Thought that was the best we've played in a while, though we have been good in the past few matches, just lacking the finishing (and luck), this one felt more like a true Wanderers display, possibly down to Alfie's (and eventually Jimmy's) return.
Knight was superb, Enslin generally excellent, Francome quite commanding and Dennon seems invigorated again tbh.
And at least 2 clear pens denied, that trip was at least a yard inside the box, which, if scored woud've seen us up to 3rd?
Anyway, if luck starts to fall our way I think there's a strong possibility of a trip to Torquay, which would be a hell of a day out.
If anyone particularly is interested, here is the link to the digital programme from yesterday

"Why would I leave to join a League Two club? We're going there anyway!" - Marc White
It was another really good performance, first half especially, but like vs Totton we didn't produce enough clear cut chances or test the keeper enough. The patched up defence did brilliantly - Knight never stopped organising - and what an unlucky goal to concede (the bounce did look odd live so not surprised to learn it hit a divot). Good to see Jimmy Muitt back again; it will be interesting to see who gets the nod on Wednesday.
On the away trip in general, what a great Wanderers weekender! I didn't try out the ladies toilets or the food offering at the ground, but the queues for beers were even longer than at Meadowbank on a busy day. Selling cans from a fridge has to be the way forward. But they gave us plenty of the ground and the segregation probably helped the atmosphere, even if not actually necessary. Fantastic turn out too - loads of people coming from all over - many are still recovering from the Weston night life.
I was a bit surprised by how route 1 Weston were. Hardly tried to play any football at all. Any chances created were largely through mistakes it seemed.
Some fairly dominant stats once again:
Possession: Weston 36% - 64% Dorking
Shots (OT): Weston 7 (3) - 18 (3) Dorking
xG: Weston 0.36 - 1.79 Dorking - Not far off the lowest xG we've conceded this season
Duels: Weston 43% - 57% Dorking
Top Performer: Dennon Lewis [7.9]
Annoying again not to turn those dominant stats into points. But both sides had only 3 shots on target so we need to turn those attacks into shots on goal it seems.
