Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
It's that time of year again! We kick off the season this weekend at home to promotion rivals, Dagenham & Redbridge. The Daggers have a couple of ex-Wanderers in the form of Liam Vincent and Davide Rodari, and will be hoping to gain promotion back to the National League this year.
The fitness update from the team showed that Muitt, Pinchard and Gallagher are likely to return in mid-late September with Josh Taylor returning a month or so after that. Isaac Philpot awaits the results of a scan but could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Predictions:
Dorking 1-1 Dagenham (Rutherford)
1,589 att.
Morris
Camp Annesley Vincent
Wood Francomb Pybus Lewis
Barrett McShane
Rutherford
Subs: Foulkes, Sayers, Grass, Page(?), Tauta-Caballero, Forster, Nikaj
I am really surprised to be seeing the "unlucky" and "nothing to be concerned about" comments after that. We were absolutely shocking.
I doubt we'll play many worse technical sides at home this season than Dagenham. Don't think they had a single shot other than the goal, which was deflected. Yet again, we struggle to put up much of a fight in an opening game with us only winning our opening game once in the last 5 years.
The lack of creativity and goals in our side has been a real problem since the opening pre-season game and it has cost us 3 points today. I can't believe we have gone in to the season with only two senior strikers and it sounds like one of those strikers won't be around much longer either. We can talk about injuries all day long but I don't think adding Gallagher, Phillpot or Pinchard to today's squad would change much...
Hard to pick any sort of positive today with so many bad indiviual performances, but I thought Laqeratabua looked pretty good when he came on with Annesley pretty solid as well. Tons of negatives to find but the biggest for me being Josh Barrett running straight off the pitch at full time after an awful performance while his 17 teammates clapped the fans at The (silent) Bank.
I would love to see the odds on us being bottom half or even relegated because I don't think we are a million miles off that with our curent squad, which is painful to say...
Quite a lot to be concerned about there for me, to be honest. Yes we dominated the ball - we always do. Yet, no threat, no creativity. Looks to be a big lack of goals in this side. 70% possession and playing against 10 men for 40 minutes we could only muster a couple of shots on target highlights a lack of quality.
Barratt was gassed early and looked way off the pace. Chaotic start where we didn’t complete a pass for until the 5th minute and concede.
Coupled with the fact that Dagenham were, awful. Two tough away games now. I get the optimism, and hope I’m wrong - but that was a tough watch.
Josh from Charlton played well for the 30 mins or so he was on
Think we should have moved the segregation around a bit, that West end terrace is practically flat standing and it was 6 deep at least.
I guess we didn't want away fans behind Morris.

Who’s that?
Josh Barrett walking off at end on his own, I’m sure Marc will get into him about that
@gary-munnery Rumour has it that Nikaj and Marc have fallen out.
I've watched Dorking for many years now and never before today screamed at a player as they were leaving the field. I hope there is footage of it because he beelined for the changing rooms several minutes before the rest of the side. I very much hope he is not in the starting XI for Maidenhead.
I hope not as my son got Nikaj on the back of his new shirt 😂.
I didn’t see any of the shouting so be interesting to see if anything appears online. Lots in the Bank where shouting at Barrett to go back to the rest of the squad.
Marc didn’t mention anything in the post match
@gary-munnery Might just be rubbish but the rumour I heard was that Marc and George disagreed about his position and there was doubt that he would even be in the squad today.
I'll be very surprised if we don't sign a striker (or two) in the next few weeks.
What's the dialling code for Dubai? Harmony Villas could help out with a lovely home on their new development.

Can't agree Tom. We were the better side, should've won, finished with 9 new players out of 11, it's very, very, very early days - and the side needs time to gel, as Marc has kept reminding us.
Longer term, very positive.
@adeb Hopefully that is the case but I've seen us dominate many a game for many years now and have very little to show for it. I also don't remember Ashmore having to make a single save so not sure we can say we deserved to win today. It was also never a red card looking at the replays from the stands.
Also, not sure why we are the only club ever that needs "time to gel"? Daggers basically signed a brand new team and had a fair few injuries themselves. We should be able to beat sides at home against 10 men while missing a CB and a couple of midfielders...
Hopefully it is just an early season blip but I saw very little today to suggest we are going to beat sides with any sort of regularity today.

Spoke to Marc, no issues at all - with any players - all good 👍

tbf, they were pretty crap 😉
Agree 100%. We didn’t deserve to win that game today. Regardless of how good and neat and tidy on the ball we look - if our set pieces are being hit straight into the keepers arms and we need 15 shots to score we won’t be winning many games. Thats why we struggled at the back end of last season against Bath, Totton, Horsham, etc. Carbon copies of today. Only Casey and Carter really scored with any sort of regularity, and they both have left..
@adeb Good to hear, although he should absolutely have a problem with Barrett after his behaviour at FT...
Dagenham were shit but ultimately they've won the game. I feel like I've said that a lot of times against teams over the last year or so. We've now lost 3 home league games in a row...
I can always take some positives from performances when I feel like it will hold us in good stead going forward but I didn't see anything today to suggest we will fair any better in upcoming games. We could put in 500+ crosses a match and I don't see who on earth is going to get on the end of them.
A reminder that we lost the league by 5 points last season. We absolutely cannot afford to throw away a month or so of the season in order to "gel"...
