Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
The long trip to Devon awaits tomorrow night as we face promotion rivals Torquay United at Plainmoor. The Gulls have struggled in recent weeks, seeing them slip to 7th in the league on 64 points. They have 2 wins from their last 5 games.
Sounds like this will be a bit of free hit game with Marc announcing he will be resting a fair few players in order to focus on the games ahead. McManus limped off in the first half against Maidenhead and Lewis followed shortly after half time meaning both would be big doubts for this. Marc did announce that Prior could be back for Hemel on Saturday with Pat Casey potentially back for the Easter period.
Still no update on the likes of Moore and Francomb or if we are likely to see McShane, Muitt and Gallagher again this season.
Predictions:
Torquay 3-1 Dorking (McCallum)
3,092 att.
Foulkes
Sullivan Annesley Craig L.Vincent
Pybus Sidwell
Enslin Pinchard Pearson
Carter
Subs: Knight, F.Vincent, Grass, Lewis, Lawrence, McCallum, Rutherford
Marc announced an academy player may be making his debut for this one. The only area I would expect to see this happen would be in defence as we seemingly have enough senior players in other areas. I don't think we've really had any other academy players around the squad so we could potetially see someone like Ted Sullivan start at the back.
Not sure if Liam Vincent is still at the club as it is a month today since he joined on a one month deal (not sure if @adeb can confirm?) but I can see either Vincent playing in that position.
I couldn't read between the lines sufficiently to work out if the strategy is to prioritise the supposed 'easier' games or whether the 'six pointers' (ie games against teams in the play off places) was the focus?
Either way, I travel down there in hope of us getting something, but it's a tall ask if we are playing Academy youngsters (maybe Lawrence to start?)
If Torquay get a win, it's going to be a motivational boost for the teams chasing us, which we really don't need.
For the sake of the predictor comp,
Torquay 2 Dorking 0

Going for a 1-1. Hoping Marc is calling a bluff on starting an Academy player, but can understand going all out for the Hemel game. I think they are our nearest challengers, so we can't afford to lose that one.
Would absolutely take a point with whats going to be a long difficult away game down at Torquay, with the new manager Jimmy Bells first game at Plainmoor. However I think it will be a home win.
Torquay 2-1 Wanderers
Safe journey to those travelling down👍
2-2 Draw. Hoping for a point. It seems Marc is not overly concerned with this game as a "must win" game. I get it. Rest and prepare. Just hard for me to ever put us down as losing (even for a scarf!).
It'll be tough no doubt, but still think we have enough quality to nick this and take all 3 points. I'll go for a 2-0 win. Pinchard and Pearson. Supporting this one from afar and safe journey to all those going. C'mon you wanderers!

I did think about Lawrence but he already made his full debut away at Dagenham a few weeks ago and Marc specifically mentioned a debut a few times in the update.
Sullivan, Grass, Straker and McLeod are the only academy players to feature in squads this season who haven't started a game.
@robh Haha yea I struggle with that too.
So I'll go with
Torquay (1) 2 Dorking W (1) 2 (Carter, Lawrence - 90th minute equaliser)
3,150 (95 Wands)
2-1 home win . Carter for Dorking
I’ll go for a 1-1 draw. Pearson to score for us
I'll have a Guinness
Torquay are also struggling badly with injuries but it is a must win game for them. Not a bad shout to save resources for our must win games at home. History down there not great so I am reluctantly going for a 1-0 defeat. Hope it’s a good game though for those hardy souls travelling today.
Yes, I agree - I think this one might be a 1 - 0 defeat. We will tire in the second half with possibly only one sub who is a fit senior player. Hopefully the last defeat of the season though!
My son counted over 160 tickets sold in the away bit so at least the team will be noisily supported 👍
