What is everyone's thoughts when it comes to their preferred formation and personnel for the rest of the season? I know a lot of the time it will come down to the opposition formation but there has been some grumblings about our 3-5-2 shape at home recently.

I also thought it would be interesting to look at the line-up that performed so well in the run-in last season:

                                  Lincoln

         Francomb            Craig           Cook

Muitt                        Gallagher                   Bowerman

                     McShane        J.Taylor

              Prior                               Ottaway

Obviously Dan Lincoln has moved on and McShane is now out for a while but everyone else remains. Blair will probably have to fill in for Bowerman for a while but hopefully we can get Muitt back up to speed as soon as possible.

I would maybe like to experiment with a 4-2-3-1 (which is how Chesterfield play) for a little while, especially in the home games. While we have injured wingers, I would like to see something like this:

                                 Male

  Francomb          Cook          Craig        B.Taylor

                         Pybus     J.Taylor

        Muitt                 Carter               Blair

                                 Prior

You could even play Gallagher instead of Pybus for a bit more defensive cover. I would also like to see Rutherford start to get some more minutes over Prior when he's back fit.

Really liked Craig, Cook & Gallagher defensively in last year's good run

I think Cook needs a run of games in defence now (to add some young legs too) and always like to see Dan G sat in front of the defence

Your 4-2-3-1 looks pretty solid ... and if that can provide some service for JP we will get to see if he is in form or not & then whether we need to try a fit Alfie

Agree with above. Probably would play Gallagher to provide defensive cover. Feel Bobby Joe should  play most games. May have to rotate players to keep freshness and make use of all substitutes. This has made a difference to Crawley when got many games in short time

I like the look of it too. Good to have a two man screen - a good balance of tackling/passing/ball carrying.  But up front there needs to be an in behind threat as well as target man.  That is either Alfie, if full fit, or Carter playing off and beyond JP.

Cook always looks solid at the back; if he could bring the ball out too, or take responsibility for starting the play, that would make a big difference.
