Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
Our FA Cup run starts with Step 3 Wingate & Finchley at Meadowbank this weekend. The Blues currently sit in the bottom 4 of the Isthmian Prem although did pick up their first league win of the season on Tuesday night at home to Hashtag United.
Marc announced in his update that only McManus and Francomb (as well as Foulkes) are missing from the squad this weekend which would suggest that Norville-Williams returns from injury. Noah Phillips joined on loan from Leyton Orient earlier in the week as well.
Predictions:
Dorking 3-0 Wingate & Finchley (Prior, Carter, Muitt)
1,373 att.
Phillips
Camp Storey Vincent
Muitt Taylor Gallagher Lewis
Carter
Prior Rutherford
Subs: Craig, Annesley, Norville-Williams, Pybus, Moore, Hebert, McShane
@hemelwanderer Looked a little higher than 7/800 to me - when it rained the Bank looked quite fullish. Maybe 900? No more than around 40 from Wingate & F tho
Attendance yesterday reported as 666.
Anyone able to provide a list of possibles in the draw? Is it just North/South now or still more regionalised than that?
Nigh impossible to provide an accurate list, but last season, for the 3rd qualifying round the country was split into just 3 regional areas
Last season (I emphasise that!) the region down here had 17 ties (34 teams)....ESSEX teams like Hornchurch and Canvey Island were NOT in our region, and neither were St Albans. So our region (albeit we were not in round 3Q last season) was VERY southern, but all the way down to the South West.
Last season in round 3Q, our region DID feature all the Kent sides, so Sittingbourne, Margate and Tonbridge Angels.
Last season in round 3Q, our region went all the way south west to Salisbury, Bath and Plymouth Parkway.
-------------------
Total guesswork from me, but if we work on a similar geographic area, I would guess the following confirmed sides would be in our zone for the draw...
Sholing
Wimbourne
Dorchester
Chippenham
Salisbury
Poole
Totton
Hungerford
Merthyr
Westbury United
Chatham Town
Folkestone Invicta
Farnborough
Dorking Wanderers
Eastbourne Borough
Farnham Town
Bedfont Sports
Cray Valley PM
Bracknell Town
Walton & Hersham
Faversham Town
Ebbsfleet United
Flackwell Heath
Deal Town
Hampton & Richmond
Plus the winners of the following replays:
Weston super Mare or Taunton Town
Frome Town or Shaftesbury
Slough or Welling
Worthing or Jersey Bulls
Horsham or Westfield
Chichester City or Whitstable Town
Tonbridge Angels or Steyning Town
That would give an even number of 32 teams in our zone

Persisting with my guesswork from the previous post, the LOWEST ranked teams confirmed in round 3Q in our likely zone would be:
Bedfont Sports (non league step 4)
Faversham Town (non league step 4)
Flackwell Heath (non league step 4)
Deal Town (non league step 4)
(there are also several non-league step 4 sides with replays on Tuesday)
Even better though, there are however 2 non-league step 5 sides who could still get through if they win their replay:
Whitstable Town
Steyning Town
So....what do you fancy in the draw?
The lowest ranked teams at home?
Something exotic further away like Jersey Bills or Merthyr? (Torquay United are already OUT!)
???????

Any of the step 4 or 5 teams please! Would take a lot of those step 3 teams at home as well.
Yes any of the step 4/5 home or away tbh.
But if we're thinking exotic/interesting/fun away day then Jersey, Flackwell Heath, Bedfont, Steyning - and even Worthing away whilst tricky would be a great tie with (probably) 600 Wanderers down there again...
If Worthing give a 600 allocation again they would surely have to give a bigger away section, as that was just stupid last time.

What about the bizarre decision of the ref not to bother with injury time! Anyone seen that before?!
I don't imagine the referees assessor was impressed with it at all - and if that was a league game there would be repercussions - in 7 minutes a team could score another goal (especially a team who had already scored 7), which could be vital goal difference at the end of a season if deciding an important league position.
There have been abandoned games replayed with less time left on the clock.

@adeb I suspect refs blow up a bit early sometimes when the game is dead, wrong as that is. I played in one mis-match against the Iraq Olympic team and the ref blew up after 75 minutes when we were 11-0 down to put us out of our misery. Very good decision!
Yeah, quite common to blow up bang on full time when it is a cup game that is dead.
The only thing I would say is that people are paying money to watch the game and want to get their full money's worth of minutes.
@calvertskans But that's absolutely ridiculous - so if the ref decides it's over we only get an 83 minute game?
On what basis does he decide this anyway? What if Josh H got his first senior goal and the confidence that brings changes his season? What if Wingate scored a couple more, bringing some respectibility to the scoreline and a measure of confidence that could change the course of thier season. Who knows? And how can it possibly be up to a ref to make this call.
Absurd and unfair in so many ways.
And it's also unfair on other teams if teams in this position get less minutes, less chance of injuries etc. Again, could change a season.
Salisbury away next round
