I predict it’s going to be the following:-
Luke Moore
Barry Fuller
Niall McManus
Rhys Murphy
Bobby Joe only kept on because he is a coach.
I am not going to count anyone under 23 as they don’t count anyway.
@jacksonfairweather No sentiment involved. Luke Moore has (as I said) a lot to offer the club on and off the pitch. He's a valuable squad player, motivator and can still disrupt when needed.
McShane - well, let's just agree to disagree here. Almost back to his best, and will challenge for a first team place imo. Who wouldn't want him on the bench? And if we get injuries...
@adeb The concept of having a 36 / 37 year old Jason Prior next season and a 35 year old Attacking Midfielder/forward player on the pitch at the same time is difficult to imagine. You will notice other clubs at NLS and NLP may have one forward who is 35+ but having 2 its not recommended. The shipping of lots of late goals wont improve if we do not have any young forwards trusted to come on from the 60th minute mark onwards.
I agree with the Luke Moore discussion as I don't think he really has a place in the squad anymore. However, he did miss most of this season with a knee injury that he sustained away at Torquay so it is hard to judge his impact too much. Experience is always helpful even if it is mostly off the pitch and in and around the dressing room.
I think McShane definitely still offers something though, especially in the NLS. We're a team that has a lot of the ball in this league so his legs and energy aren't required as much, whereas his touch and vision are. Even going back 5 or so years ago, he was never the most athletic and has never been a player where his game relied on pace. Realistically though, he is a back-up to Carter or a 3rd/4th choice striker.
Fascinating watching BoA just now (St Albans away) where we ran out of steam last 10.
Story of the season - but what was insightful was Marc singling out Jimmy and Alfie and questioning overall fitness. Not in an overly negative way, but the point was clear.
Now I know they both run like maniacs for most of the game - and Jimmy is expected to track back - but should they be fitter? Is this the issue? Or are we expecting too much with our formation? It was a very warm day and a difficult pitch, but St Albans were suddenly turning us inside out, much like the play off game with Borehamwood. Both wingers (Jimmy and Briggs) were getting easily beaten in the last 10 mins.
Thoughts?
Haven't watched that episode yet Ade, but from memory it was more than coming, the legs definitely went in the heat. Shame as it was a gorgeous day with a bumper crowd. Hopefully something the strength and conditioning coach can work on next season.
"Why would I leave to join a League Two club? We're going there anyway!" - Marc White
Just see Jack Young has been released by Wycombe. Would anyone want him back at Meadowbank? Thought overall he was a decent player, good addition to the squad if he’d fancy dropping down permanently
@gary-munnery Would love him back. But a) he's probably a couple of leagues above standard wise and may not want to drop and b) where would he fit in (I'm not sure).
You never know - he may have loved his time with us enough to give it another go. Then again, maybe wages could be an issue?
@adeb I guess Young ends up at a Nat League Prem team. My hunch is that he doesn’t get a L2 side come in for him.
Doesn’t fit into the existing side unless you drop Josh Taylor. He was brought in as cover for him, but wasn’t favoured ahead of him.
You would spend your budget more on the key positions which are LB, CB and CF
Norville-Williams signs a new deal for next season.
Interesting as I would have assumed that anyone not in the released list from last week would have already been signed on for next season. I wonder who else has yet to sign a deal for next season?
I think the only players with publicly announced deals for next season are Rutherford, Prior, J.Taylor, Pybus and Norville-Williams. I think Carter and Craig possibly have as well.
@calvertskans I think Carter and Craig both under Contract - possibly one further year.
I don't get why we can't just publish a proper retained list like literally every other club does...
@calvertskans Probably because there are still a few negotiations with certain players. I guess these things can be complicated.
@adeb It doesn't need to be a final list of every player signed on for next season. It needs to be a breakdown of all the players who are already contracted, offered new terms, returning to loan clubs and released.
For examle, the Aldershot one - https://www.theshots.co.uk/retained-list-end-of-24-25-season/
Every other club does this except us
@calvertskans But there's no point in doing that until it's confirmed. Which I don't think it is, yet. Otherwise we'd just have to issue another update?
