Back at home against old rivals Maidstone United. The Kent side have had a similar start to us with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat so far.

The injury news seemed to suggest that Isaac Philpot may return for this one, but it might come too soon for Pybus and Francomb. Harry Pinchard, Muitt, Gallagher and Taylor all remain mid-long term absentees.

Predictions:

Dorking 2-2 Maidstone (Camp, Rutherford)

1,532 att.

                       Morris

        Camp    Annesley   Laqeretabua

Forster       Page         Vincent         Lewis

                       Barrett

          Rutherford       Rogalski

Subs: Sayers, Philpot, Grass, Tauta-Caballero, McShane, Wood, Nikaj

Amazed at anyone who predicted a win. I thought I was generous predicting a draw. We are closer to relegation than promotion...

Well another disappointing home result and performance. That starting 11 was bonkers. Literally no one on the bench who could come on and influence a result.
Thought Nikaj did well on the wing first half, so was a shame when he was put up top second half and they brought on Wood who was poor imo.

We were terrible. I don't want to hear crappie about we had no midfield. We know this, and should therefore have that ability to adapt. Surely that is what training is for. Nikaj was good in the first half, although kept running down blind alleys. Their numbers 3 and 10 were excellent.

I thought the pitch was even more awful than usual, the ball was so slow across it. My MOM was Barrett. Lovely goal and some superb passing.

Pretty dispiriting display that.  Nikaj a bright spot in the first half as has been said, but I just couldn't fathom that lineup.  Why have Page here if you're not going to play him in situations like this? Just asking Vincent to do too much in there today despite his best efforts.  I know today isn't down to him by any stretch, but it's clear that Wood is not up to this level, at least on the right.  He might be better on the left but that's not really where we have our issues.  Jimmy can't come back soon enough! I guess it's just a case of hanging on for dear life until the cavalry returns.

A little perspective...

It's 4 games in, and we have the same points total as last season, when we came so, so close to winning with what was, imho, a squad not as strong as this season.

With so many new players, it will take some time, it's bound to, and there will be ups and downs for a few weeks yet I think.

Very confident we'll be looking at a different picture come Oct/Nov time.

And whilst some might not like to hear it, having no CDM will have an impact, regardless.

Worth remembering too that we have no divine right to steamroller through this (very tough) league. There's a lot of money out there, and a lot of ambition that we're up against.

When is Jimmy due back? Heard someone say possibly October but surely closer than that?

Looking up at the new gantry ,there was a very long line of crocked players already

If you have a bit of an injury crisis, surely the best thing is to tighten up in defence and midfield and be hard to beat. That was a crazy starting 11 against a good Maidstone side. Page should have played alongside Vincent as two 6s, then Barratt or McShane higher up. We gave the ball away far too often. Rutherford seems really out of sorts at the minute as well...

@adeb Strongly disagree - thought we had a stronger squad last season with the likes of Foulkes, JNW, Carter, Prior.

We lost 3 games at home all of last season and lost 2 already this season. We lost the league by 5 points last season and 3 the season before yet have dropped 8 pts already this season...

That starting lineup today was inexscusable and borderline sackable. What is Page doing here on a short term deal if he isn't starting or even playing in this scenario? How do we start 3 strikers but end up with only 1 while losing? How did both Barrett and McShane play 90?

I don't care how good we will be in November if the league title is gone by that point (already 8 pts behind Dagenham). Can't see us finishing much higher than 12th with this squad.

6 points over the Bank Holiday weekend now an absolute must...

@wayworn-wanderer Agree with both points RE Page and Rutherford. Can only assume Page is either not upto match fitness or is not favoured by the management team? This season will be key for Rutherford imo. He doesnt look as sharp as he used to which is down to the injuries hes suffered the past few seasons and to be expected. If he doesnt perform on the numbers front (goals assists) then could it be time for him to move on? Personally I hope not as he has been a crucial player for us in the years he has been here.

As Ade mentioned, results are going to be up and down at the moment until the team fully gels and the injured key players return. The past few seasons now we have had slow starts then have the purple patch where we go on a undefeated run and pick up plenty of wins. Our team on paper is more than capable and once it clicks we will be up there.

Keep the faith.

Onto a trip to bottom of the table and winless Walton and Hersham next week..

@hemelwanderer

Fair points. Although what I would push back on is that a lot of clubs have new players. Our circumstances are not uniquely difficult, and it’s an excuse to say otherwise.

It’s such a shame yet again we have so many players missing, so early on. By the time we had our second league defeat at home last season, it was April. It’s still August.

W&H a good opportunity to get back to winning ways, but they will be thinking just the same!
