Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
Back at Meadowbank again tomorrow as we face Dover Athletic under the lights. The Kent side are currently 15th in the table on 38 points with just 1 win in their last 5 games.
No fresh injury news, but Marc did announce that Rutherford might be back this weekend for Farnborough and that Carter and Pybus are both a couple of weeks away.
Predictions:
Dorking 3-1 Dover (McCallum, Casey, McShane)
1,328 att.
Foulkes
Camp Annesley Norville-Williams
Muitt Gallagher Sidwell Lewis
McShane
McCallum Casey
Subs: Craig, Francomb, Knight, Vincent, McManus, Moore, Prior
Attendance can almost certainly be put down to a mixture of bad weather and a ton of home games. It has rained basically every day for 2 months and the last thing people want to do is go stand in it for 2 hours. Combine that with 5 straight home games then you get some more casual fans who will wait for Saturday fixtures or bigger opponents. We played Aveley and Tonbridge in midweek games last season and they were similar crowds with similar weather.
Tough first half but probably a little expected considering how little football we've played over the past few weeks compared to Dover. A much better second half, propelled by some excellent changes. Prior and McManus were superb when they came on and it was great to see Knight get on and score as well.
Shame about Casey but at least Rutherford is back this weekend by the sounds of it.
Stats:
Possession: Dorking 57% - 43% Dover
Shots (OT): Dorking 13 (8) - 11 (2) Dover
xG: Dorking 2.04 - 0.34 Dover
Accurate Crosses: Dorking 1 - 2 Dover - Our lowest amount this season
Top Performer (Dorking): Brennan Camp [7.7]
First half a dreadful watch, combination of timewasting by Dover, and few, few chances. Just a scrap really.
Second half got some soft decisions, one of which a 'foul' on Muitt (Muitt literally pushed the ball past then ran into the player) led to a goal
Knight looked great. Shame about Casey's injury. Was all about the 3 points which were grafted for. Late bonus seeing Chippenham beat Torquay putting us on joint top points.
Attendance was only 906 including 98 away fans, that is a really poor turnout (of just over 800 Dorking fans) which confirms my earlier suggestion that we should have been offing a multi-game ticket bundle at a small discount (3 consecutive home games gave that opportunity) to boost the crowd numbers
Country Road was a bit of a wierd one, played just as Marc walked out so The Bank were singing Marc's song instead. Worth another couple of go's - got to give it a chance, but at the moment it looks as popular as when they started playing Elvis pre-match at Palace!!!! 🤣
Overall pleased that Marc is finding ways to consistently win with what we have.
Since last season the ticket prices have been too high.
I attended a Championship game as an adult with my 2 sons for cheaper than it was to go to a Dorking Wanderers home game.
I have also just checked and to see Dorking for me and my 2 sons under 14 for the next game, it would cost £38.
I could go to Crawley’s next home game with my 2 sons (under 14) for £24.
The cost of living crisis is real everyone working is being taxed into oblivion, and I don’t have season tickets anymore. Therefore, this really matters. I wonder how many other people are put off by the astronomically high ticket prices.
With no bundles and very high prices it’s not good value for the level of football. It’s putting people off.
A 3 game bundle would’ve been nice but I’d be at games anyway regardless. Will cost me £81 for the 3 games this week. I guess that would put off a lot of casual fans , and they’ll just pick 1 or 2 of the 3.
Said before I really must get a ST as I’ll be doing every game and will save me a few ££
I should get my wife a DW S/T really, she will probably get to about 16/17 out of the 23 home games this season, but that is mainly because Palace are playing on so many Sundays (because they are in a Thursday night European competition)
But it is impossible to say (at this time) whether Palace would be in another Thursday night European comp next season
I have a friend who has Brighton season tickets - they aren't in Europe in comparison, and play on most Saturdays, and so DW season tickets aren't quite as worth it.
But chuck into the equation that if DW go up, the match ticket price would certainly be at least 20 quid a game....
Onto the bundle thing - I'm buying my wife a ticket to all these 3 games (Dover, Farnborough, Hornchurch) at 18 quid per game, but that's not really the point. 808 home fans against Dover might have been a little more with a bit of innovative thinking - didn't need to be a 3 for 2 offer, but a couple of quid off per game would have been a nice offer (or 3 for 50 quid?) to just show that the club recognises that consistent support does come at a cost.
It is what it is I guess, but considering that so many other parts of the club are forward thinking - large range of merch, almost always an away travel option, loads of comms and social media content, the pricing for home games is unusually formulaic and lacks innovation.
"Why would I leave to join a League Two club? We're going there anyway!" - Marc White
For the home games against Farnborough and Hornchurch, it's been announced as U8's for £1 and under 18's for £5
Which is great news what with it being half term.
Really hope that helps get the crowd number up a bit 👍

As others have said it wasn’t the best spectacle. Turgid, awful first half. Surprised at the (lack of) crowd, when we’re having such a good season. I guess a rainy Tuesday in February does that.
Hammer down now. This league is ours for the taking, if we continue to play like this. COYW.

Good to hear. The adult prices aren't actually too bad, it's the concession and children prices which are expensive which discourages younger future fans to support the club. I know a 20 year old student who loves football - it costs him £18 at Dorking, but £10 at Crawley.
Agree good range of merchandise on line, but can be really hard to look at clothes (ex club strip) at the game. You need to ask at the burger bar or actual bar to see items if you want to check quality/size rather than just check themselves in a shop like you can do at other clubs.
