The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
Hi all
Haven't posted on here for a while, and took the sensible decision to come off social media for a bit after the game last night. Wanted to say thank you to all the friends and fans who have taken the time to message me or personally say thank you for the interviews pre and post match throughout the season.
As a former player, fan and someone that has known Marc since we were kids it isn't easy at times. I kick every ball and want us to win as much as anyone. Some of these evening games can be late finishes and I quite often have my familly with me as well. It is all voluntary, in fact pretty much everyone within the media team is a volunteer (some not as local as others either) and during this time I have appreciated how much time and effort everyone from the top down gives. Yes, last night was frustrating, but a summation of our season encapsulated in one game unfortunately.
I hope everyone has a good summer, take a breath and remember that it is just a game and no matter how much it hurts, the sun came up this morning and we all had our health and families.

Great message James ... & thanks for your work with the media team, the interviews are always good (& getting better) ... Crazy game last night, but great atmosphere and travelling support for the boys

Hope you got that message James, your interviews have been brilliant particularly the difficult ones (cough, Horsham again) and do please come back at some point, as I don't want to have to send (occasional) scans of the Advertiser via Abbi next season lol
And social media can indeed be a crap place, I heard that the club instagram got bombarded with hateful messages by all sorts of people (mostly anonymous cowards) after last night's outcome.
And don't forget the Surrey Senior Cup, an excuse to see friends and aquaintances if nothing else, and we really should win it if we can be arsed after all.

You've done a great job with the mic James. Part of the whole DWFC scene now. Thanks for all your involvement with the Club.
Watched the post match interview as soon as I got back last night - always a good watch, and always a fair summary by Marc. He knows the problems this season, tbh they are glaringly obvious, and I'm 100% confident that we can sort them this summer, and the fact that we still almost won the league having thrown away circa 30 points this season makes me think we can come back stronger, and maybe the 100 points isn't such a pipe dream after all.
Enjoy your Summer, Surrey will probably win the County Championship again (if they stop playing on absolute roads every week like at Hove!), so enjoy that! Thanks for everything you do for the club.
@matthewpont frustrating listening to someone describe our problems throughout the season when he has been in a position to fix them though isn't it. Hopefully they are fixed for next season as realistically it has been 2 seasons of underperforming and ignoring, as you say, glaringly obvious issues.
I know what you mean Ethan.
In many respects the club is punching above it's weight - look at the quality of the stadium for example. But gradually over time the attendances have grown to the point we were about 12th in the VNL for average home attendance last time we were in it.
And from what has been said, our squad budget this season was top 6 for the division.
The second half of the relegation season felt like it was happening in slow motion, most of us could see the squad wasn't good enough but I can only assume there wasn't the budget to fix it.
This season, after the good run which put us 6pts clear at the top (albeit Worthing had games in hand) we went off the pace and we all discussed on here the game management issues, but I wonder if again the players just weren't good enough - it wasn't for lack of trying or workrate from any of them?
I do think an overhaul of the squad is needed this summer, not just tinkering around the edges. We all love the players and see them as when they were at their best, but without naming any names, you could pick half a dozen of them easily and say 'but they were better in 2020/21'

The pre and post match interviews are class Lamps, you do a really good job. A better job at interviewing than many so called "professionals" on the major sports channels in fact.
Thanks for your commitment to the club.
My views on the issues with the team are well known and lets face it - the issues have been glaringly obvious since our 2nd season in the national league and have bled into this season.... And you can go back through my posts in pre season predicting everything that has played out this season.
Nice one James, always enjoy the post and pre match interviews. Certainly was wise to avoid social media last night- some of the stuff I saw was vile and unnecessary.
Have a good summer and roll on pre season
