A first midweek game of the season awaits as we welcome Slough Town to Meadowbank tomorrow evening. The Rebels have had a similar start to us as they sit on 1 point after the first 2 games as well.

Marc mentioned that Annesley and Norville-Williams are still a few weeks away while McManus and Pybus may return next week. Marc also mentioned in the post-match at the weekend that Luke Moore will be unavailable for the game.

Predictions:

Dorking 2-1 Slough Town (Rutherford, Craig)

1,094 att.

                        Foulkes

         Camp        Craig      Francomb

 Muitt         Taylor       Gallagher       Lewis

                         Carter

               Rutherford     Prior

Subs: Sullivan, Storey, Saunders, Vincent, Hebert, McShane, Lawrence

I'd go for something like this (though I don't think it will happen). Time to try something without JP perhaps?

                      Foulkes

         Camp        Craig      Francomb

 Muitt         Taylor       Mcshane       Hebert

                         Carter

                  Rutherford Lewis

Dorking (1) 2 Slough T (1) 1

1,010 (68 from Slough)

I have a feeling Louie Storey will start. Would love there to be a place in the team for Dennon too, so fast, exciting player.

Can't honestly forecast a clean sheet, there will be a cock up goal conceded at some point in the game, but reckon they'll be like a scolded cat and win 3-1

Attendance just over a thousand.

I doubt we start Storey and Craig in the same XI as that would add even more pace issues to our backline. I can definitely see him coming on if we're defending a lead though.

I was not impressed with Lewis or Vincent on Saturday but I'd rather start Lewis up top with Alfie, however I don't think either of them would have the space and room to run in to as Slough are likely to sit deep like Chippenham and Hampton did. I can possibly see Vincent playing in his natural position in midfield alongside Taylor.

I think we will win and it will be 2-1 with goals from Carter and Vincent. This prediction is because I think the lads will break a neck to win this one, after drawing and losing the first 2 games. We need to be a bit more flexible in possession in the opponents half, shifting it out wide for a cross 95% of the time is too predictable.

@jacksonfairweather Agreed. That was something we were doing really well in pre-season. Going central and using the skill of Josh Taylor and Charlie to create chances. It's what we used to do a lot when we won promotion from the NLS last time - working our way into the box on the ground. For me, the constant crosses are sometimes too easy to defend against.

Can see it being another tough tight game, would take a complete snooze fest of 90 mins for a 1-0 win but can see it being a draw tommorow night. 1-1 Carter.

@adeb The patterns of play and goals scored in pre-season were encouraging and utilising the skills of the strongest part of our team. Unfortunately, it appears that it was a case of "better the devil you know" and we went back to the same tired old attacking patterns that have made us extremely ineffective at home for the past 2 seasons. As the results prove. Its extremely easy to defend against a team when you know exactly what they are going to do.

Expecting a tight game with a lowish crowd most probably.
2-1 home win, Prior and Carter

Hopefully Dennon will start and possibly Storey.

I’m expecting goals tonight and hoping that Slough won’t just sit back and defend to hit us in the break.  But also hoping lessons have been learned at the back. Agree on the need for more variety in attack, especially if JP isn’t on the pitch. 4-3 win.

Dennon Lewis and Louie Storey both start. Hope that sparks an improvement 🙂

Well that was a very good defensive performance against a limited team - better than Hampton I thought- and again didn’t get the goals that our dominance warranted.

Really good performances all over the pitch.  Highlights for me were Storey running things at the back - good distribution too - and Macca being creative and tidy behind the from two. Josh Taylor was excellent in a new role too, as was Vincent at left back.

A much needed win and performance. Some brilliant moves at times. More ruthlessness in front of goal will be needed against better sides.

Did not see it but saw the highlights, and the finishing again was atrocious. We missed a lot of chances yet again to put them out of sight. I am not sure I would put it all down to the pitch, as that gives them an "out" for poor finishing. You wont get that many chances in the division above at home, just thinking about next season if we do go up.

The plus side is that Storey looked really good, some great long balls played forward as well, playing the opposition at their own game finally. I like the versatility of that to catch the opposition off guard and out of their frame.

I won't think about what if's about the division above until such time as promotion has been achieved. Which would still be quite some feat.

The pitch IS utterly dreadful though, passing across the grass it is very slow but also very bobbley. Players treading on the ball and twisting ankles throughout. I don't know what the annual assessment said, but I would go as far as to say it is worse than Whyteleafe's now.

It is a shame because there are some very good pitches out there - Maidstone's new one was excellent last season for example.

in other news, Niall has at least 1 more week in his 'boot' and George has broken a toe ☹️
